Recording

Definitions:

  • Reclist: Short for "recording list". A .txt file that contains the lines you will be recording
  • GuideBGM: An audio file that plays while you record, and is used to help with timing. It's only necessary when your reclist has more than 1 syllable in each line, which you will use if making a non-CV voicebank
  • Morae: Just another word for syllables

Recording Resources

For a VCV voicebank I recommend Frageles' modded kana reclist of Salem's "Efficency VCV" reclist. While the later lines are not necessary to record, they make adding glottal stops, katakana, inhale, and exhale easier if you choose to add those in the future. You can also use Salem's romaji version of "Efficency VCV" to help with the pronunciation of the necessary lines.

Warning for Japanese voicebanks: I HIGHLY recommend using a Kana based reclists, instead of a romaji based one. Using a romaji reclist means you may have to use MoreSampler [a pain to use] instead of setParam [beginner friendly for CV and VCV voicebanks] when oto-ing in the next step

Getting Started

  • Decide what kind of voicebank you want [CV, VCV, CVVC, ARPAsing]
    • CV is the easiest to make
    • VCV can potentially have a better end product [depends entirely on recording and oto-ing quality]
    • CVVC is a middleground between CV and VCV, and can be used for English voicebanks
    • ARPAsing is only(?) for English voicebanks
    • Again, watch YupphireUTAU's video for more info
  • Get respected reclist and guideBGM [Go here to find a comfortable pitch]
    • If making a VCV, I recommend using Salem's "120BPM 8 beats" guideBGM, as Frageles has all the variables for oto-ing that revolve around the guideBGM

Setting Up OREMO

In the top left of OREMO:

  • File > Set Recording Folder > [Pick folder for UTAU / Make new folder]
    • Making appends or a multipitch voicebank? Each append/pitch should be it's own folder. So they're like entirely separate voicebanks. YupphireUTAU also explains this.
  • File > Load Voice List > [Pick reclist txt file]
  • Option > Record Style Settings
    • Pick "Automatic Recording 1" [2nd option] if reclist is more than 1 syllable per line (AKA non-CV)
    • Otherwise, “Manual Recording” [1st option] may be a valid option
    • NEVER use option 3 "Automatic Recording 2"
    • If using a guideBGM, click “Guide Music File” and select guideBGM file
    • Exit out of "Record Style Settings" window
  • Top left again: Show > Turn on the following: “Show Waveform”, “Show F0”
  • Option > Advanced Settings > Look for “Target Tone” in bottom right > Pick note that guideBGM is in
  • MAKE SURE THAT ↑ AND ↓ ARE NOT HIGHLIGHTED
